The Beach Breakers
Homeschool Sports for all ages.
What is Beach Breakers?
The Beach Breakers is a home school sports league, which competes interscholastically within the Hampton Roads area. Our goal each year is to have a middle school team, a junior varsity team and a varsity team for each of the sports we compete in. Our spring sports, are Girls soccer, Girls softball, and Boys baseball, with games beginning in March and running through May. Our fall sports consist of Boys soccer and Girls volleyball. We generally begin player evaluations in June with games starting in August. During the winter, we have a great time competing in Boys and Girls basketball. Evaluations for baskteball begin in September with games starting in November and running through February. Cheerleading is also offered during the winter months. They start their preseason and evaluation in April and work through the summer. This sums up a year with the Beach Breakers.
But Wait There’s More
The Breakers have something for everyone. There is a division that operates under the Breakers. It is a group called Beach Junior Athletics or Beach JA. Beach JA is an instructional, intramural group that ranges in age from tots, 2-4 year olds, all the way up to 16. In the Spring, we have Baseball and Girls Softball. The baseball includes Tee-ball for the younger kids, coach pitch for the 7-9 age group up, and fast pitch for the oldest age group. In the fall, we have soccer, which is our largest sport, averaging about 300 kids. After soccer, we have a brief flag football season with cheerleading. Then in the winter, we begin basketball and cheerleading in January. Our teams break down according to how many players we have for the year. Each season we try to offer a 5-7 age group, an 8-9 group, a 10-11 and a 12-16 group. We work hard to set up our teams so that families, no matter the size, all practice on the same night each week. All of our games are played on Saturday Mornings. This way families only have to be concerned with one day for games.
So Where should I Play? Breakers or JA?
The answer to that question, lies in what you determine you want. If you are looking for a more competitive league, then you will want to play for the Beach Breakers, just as you would if you were in Middle School or High School. You will have to decide what fits best in your lifestyle. If you decide that a competitive team is for you, then you will have to ask if you are ready to make the commitment that comes with playing for the Breakers. Beach JA practices one day a week, and has their games on Saturday Mornings. The Beach Breakers on the other hand will usually practice between three and five days a week. The Breakers games can be anywhere from one to three games a week. When you make a commitment to play for the Breakers, it is three to four month commitment. A commitment that is made by you and requires time and effort making the Breakers team, that you are apart of, the best team that it can possibly be. Please understand if you desire to be on the Breakers Varsity team, it is competitive play that is taken seriously. When you commit to the team in order to be 1st string, you will be expected to be at all the practices and all the games.
